Hi! My name is John and I like servers and stuff. You can call me jg. I am down to do some techie things with anyone and generally hang out on the 'net. I currently administrate a Pleroma instance here, a blog here, and a radio stream here. I also do email and cloud and other projects but that's not really ready for the public yet.

Here's a looooooong list of things about me:

  • I like JJBA
  • My favorite browser is Firefox
  • My favorite laptop is the Thinkpad X200
  • I like high fidelity audio but also vaporwave
  • Pink Floyd, King Crimson, and pretty much any boomer prog/psych rock is nice
  • I enjoy helping people with server projects
  • My favorite authors are Isaac Asimov, Philip K. Dick, Ray Bradbury, Robert A. Heinlein, Arthur C. Clarke, and William Gibson
  • I sleep a lot, but never at the right time
  • I'm tall and skinny, trying to change the skinny part
  • Favorite desktop window manager is i3
  • I regularly consume 600mg+ of caffeine daily, trying to change the 600mg+ part
  • I like pretending to know how to program
  • I like pretending to know how to play the guitar
  • My favorite watch is the Casio F-91W
  • My dream job is bartender
  • I like abandoned buildings
  • I play D&D every Tuesday
  • I prefer 24 hour time because of a really bad AM/PM mix up
  • I don't know how to tie a tie (yet)
  • I like reading blogs
  • I still think IRC is cool
  • I check my email more frequently than I check SMS
  • I say "and stuff" too much and stuff
  • I drive a 1994 Buick Regal Custom and sometimes pretend that I'm an upper class businessman in the 90s
  • Despite being all computery I'm deathly afraid of anything with a network connection
  • I eat garbage and nothing but garbage
  • My favorite movies are Bladerunner, The Princess Bride, and any Mel Gibson comedy
  • Monty Python is good
  • Python is good
  • Perl is better
  • I was once banned from a voice chat by accidentally sneezing into my mic
  • I like pretending to know how to play chess

If you made it this far, you're probably my long lost twin or something because even I couldn't get through that without getting a migraine. I hope to have fun and meet new friends!

  • I watched a bit of JJBA. Not my cup of tea tbh.
  • I also like Firefox! I wish they'd fix the bloat issues though.
  • I've never used the X200, but my A485 is serving me pretty well for now :)
  • That's a rather wide range of music there ^_^'
  • I actually don't know any songs from those bands >.>''
  • What kinda server projects?
  • I should read books >.>
  • That's me most of the time as well. I was pretty regular over the past two weeks though.
  • Same. I just can't put on weight though.
  • Admittedly, I'm more comfortable with DEs, but I use i3 for the speeeeeed.
  • I'm not sure how much caffiene I consume daily. It's only from tea though.
  • Same.
  • I used to learn the guitar in primary school. I wish I carried on.
  • Ah, I have the silver version of that one somewhere. But my daily driver is an Accurist MS1036BB.
  • That's probably quite far from my dream job - too much people interaction. It does sound like a pretty cool job though.
  • I don't think I've ever been in one :o
  • I've never played D&D :(
  • I prefer 24h time, but I'm fine with using both.
  • Yeah, i gotta look it up online every time :/
  • Hmm, I don't really follow any blogs.
  • Yes.
  • I get pretty much instantly notified for both, so I don't think there's much difference in my case.
  • Same.
  • I drive a 2008 Volvo S40, and try to tell myself I'm not pretty much a boring middle-aged man.
  • I think that's pretty common tbh. The more someone knows about computers/networks/programming, the more they know how badly insecure it most likely is.
  • I try to eat healthily, though my diet is now having a massive shake-up due to health issues :/
  • Never seen any of those. I'm not sure what my favourite movie is tbh, I'm not a huge film buff.
  • I should get around to finally watching that.
  • Yes.
  • No.
  • lol, understandable
  • I've accepted that since not playing since the age of like, 11, I no longer have any idea how to be good at the game.

I thought you were joking, but you actually responded to every bullet point :o. Lewd is already full of surprises! I'm gonna trim down the list and reply to the reply if that's not in bad taste.

  • I understand JoJo, it's a little too bizarre at times.
  • The A485 looks really cool! So slim.
  • Yeah the music range is a little wacky.
  • All the boomer music is a consequence of living with overprotective boomer parents.
  • Server projects is pretty much any server project. I helped vala with writing a Pleroma guide just the other day.
  • i3 is soo convenient. I got so used to the shortcuts that I subconsciously try to use them in other environments.
  • I tried tea once and thought it tasted like grass. I'm a little bit more hardcore and take caffeine pills to stave off withdrawal symptoms
  • That watch is seriously the coolest thing I've ever seen. Do you ever use the slide rule?
  • D&D is super fun if you have the right people, I played as a blind swordsman last week.
  • I don't get notified for email/SMS because I've been clinging to the same flip phone I've had since the dawn of time.
  • No matter what car you drive, you post on Lewd so you're probably not that boring!
  • Tech is like sausage, y'know? Once you know how sausages are made, the less you want to eat them.
  • Health issues sounds bad? If you're comfortable talking about it I can spare some Internet Sympathy Points. :(
  • Please, please, please! Watch at least Blade Runner! Harrison Ford (Han Solo/Indiana Jones) is a cool space bounty hunter.
  • Start with Monty Python and the Holy Grail, it's probably their most iconic
  • I understand the Perl hate, it can get pretty messy.
  • Playing chess online isn't too bad, especially on places where it will match you up with people at your skill level. I wouldn't stand a chance against 99% of the chess playing population.

  • If you ignore the 72Wh battery sticking out from the bottom, yes~
  • mm, I do like quite a bit of boomer music too. ABBA, Chris Rea...
  • I come from a very long time of using Windows - i still haven't mastered learning keyboard shortcuts >.<
  • Damn, maybe you should just slowly wean yourself off it?
  • Heh, it's probably a little garish for me nowadays, but it is pretty interesting - you don't often see watches with independently moving hands. I do not use the slide rule >.< though I'm not sure I've ever needed to.
  • Good on ya - we don't need any more e-waste.
  • Online forums give me time to think of something mildly interesting to say. No such luxury irl >.<
  • Some digestive tract issues that have been going on for a few years. Not terrible, but enough to mess up my day and mood.
  • Hah, that perl article is pretty amazing. I wonder if the same could be done with brainfuck.
  • I do want to change my car to something more exciting though - probably an RX-8. I gotta graduate and get a job first though.

Thanks! I haven't gotten the chance to do any more exploring but there is a barn I want to check out. I'll probably get a good opportunity to scope it out after the weather breaks.
