So I downloaded BBM about an hour ago, just for the fun of it, and unsurprisingly all of my contacts were inactive. And it got me thinking. What was one of your favorite communication apps that almost no one uses anymore?. I'm curious hehe

I was always a AIM kinda guy, but I used MSN a lot too because all of internet buddys at the time moved over to it.

Although I barely used it, I remember lurking on msn and irc when I was like 10 years old. But I probably have to say Skype. I'm not that old so I never had the chance to experience the good old days of AIM and "YOU'VE GOT MAIL!!" haha. Although I still use old communication platforms, pretty old but it works. Namely XMPP. Luvin it and still using it.

My mom used to use this outdated communication app called the 'landline telephone'.

My mum for some reason decided to buy a landline phone. It's literally nothing but spam calls.

Back when I lived at home, I always tried to talk my dad out of getting rid of the landline phone. I've only heard it go off once and it scared the shit outta me because I didn't even know it was a thing.

My parents still use the landline a lot. I don't think it's bad, it's nice to have a single number that anyone who's home can answer. If my grandparents ring, they can't care who they speak to in the house, they just want to speak to someone and get a message across. I'll be able to repeat it at dinnertime anyway. Besides, if you have to pay line rental for internet anyway (reeeee virgin media fags), it's probably cheaper than getting a mobile phone. I get as much spam calls on my mobile as the landline does, in both cases you just never pick up.

I won't be getting a landline as a student of course, because it just doesn't make sense. But as a family living in a house? It makes a lot of sense to have a phone number for the family, not each individual member.

Yeah a landline is way cheaper and more convenient for a family. I dunno if people are still using the corded landlines anymore though. My family replaced their corded landlines with wireless handsets a long time ago, but my mom still keeps one around in case she wants to make financial calls because she is worried about wireless calls being intercepted.

mm, it's interesting how people aren't used to landlines anymore. i don't own a mobile phone so i use nothing but landlines... i grew up with it and it's the most natural thing in the world for me. the idea that people don't have them anymore sometimes was super surprising to me when i first heard about it! i guess times change a lot if you live under a rock like me!

I was thinking the same while I read the other posts. I own a mobile phone but I almost don't use it, more than 95% of my calls are made from a landline phone. And I think it's really cool.

Dunno if it registered on anyone's radar, but Yahoo! Messenger officially kicked the bucket mid-last month.

Luckily y'all can still download the chatlogs for a few more weeks. It's nice to have memories. ^^

AIM & MSN Messenger were my big ones. I know a lot of buddies had blackberry's so they could use BBM, but I never bothered.

Skype, Very suddenly pretty much all my friends moved to Discord. (For good reason, Skype is for brooms)

I definitely can say that it kinda sucks that not many people use IRC anymore these days, primitive as it might have been, I still find it a convenient tool for having online conversations, sadly no-one uses it anymore.

The two of you browse anime porn forums too, I guess it's no coincidence since both IRC and forums are a niche medium for super nerds, no normie will ever come here.
