Silent Hill 2 http://au.ign.com/games/silent-hill-2/pc-492619 (this game literally redefined the survival horror scene)

Also Half-Life 1 and 2 have some awesome horror mods, along with being semi-horror games themselves with zombies and what not
Half-Life 1 http://store.steampowered.com/app/70/

I wrote this up for someone on HF, I put a lot of effort into it and decided I wouldn't let it go to waste and post it in other places for people to see

An entire threadkiller in the OP, and not even one mention of Ib? Damn shame.

Sadly I only had a chance to play through the first hour or two of it, but it was still one hell of a ride. The game seems to epitomize the Japanese technique of slow-building horror that exploits human psychology to keep us constantly alert and on-edge; as if every creaking floorboard and yawning corridor warns of an incomprehensible evil out to get us.

If you're in the mood for a slow, but genuine scare, you should totes check it out: http://vgperson.com/games/ib.htm

Agreed, Ib was one of the best horror games I've played.
