Yeah, Mibbit let's you join IRC channels directly from the site. I find it a bit crappy compared to desktop clients tbh.

He said he is unable to run desktop clients, I believe, so mibbit is better than nothing as far as he is concerned.

BACK
TO
SLACK

I knew this day would come. I'm voting slack for a simple reason that I loved it and if IRC wins I'm not joining it because of past inconveniences~

IRC or slack, either is fine with me. I love them both.

I say IRC just for the sake of simplicity. It's been tried and true, and if it's the same as I remember then there won't be images in the chat, so people will be more likely to post that content on the forums instead.

Otherwise I'd be fine with Slack if we are gonna go to a downloadable client again. Or whatever really, I trust our staff will make the best decision on this and I don't even know anything about the other options in this poll anyway (besides Skype, which I never use)

Great, so basically Discord is the equivalent of Facebook and the NSA? That's some pretty fucked up shit

I would prefer Slack, but I wouldn't mind IRC.

To anyone voting irc, what you may find interesting is that Slack actually has an irc gate.
Meaning, everyone who wants to use the multiple clients available for pc, mobile, linux, etc can use that, and everyone looking for an IRC experience can use that. A win win situation.

tbh their TOS isn't much different from Discord's

While I'm not on much at the moment, making an effort to be moreso now, when/if the change happens I'd prefer it over to IRC or Slack. Already forced to use every chat client going already though so I'm easy.

I certainly won't. I'm not going to the forum to create a post or thread just to post a single image. I want to post it somewhere where people can immediately give their opinion etc on said image. The forum isn't live so you can't get the reactions. It's just not the same.

Things I require are
>iOS app
>Ability to upload images from local storage/camera in-app
>Hotlinking

Discord and Slack are very good options for me.

The forum seems to formal for a simple post of an image which is why I rarely post. I like my posts to be of high quality and not just a simple image.

I'd go for slack myself, if there wasn't a paywall on viewing more than the last 10k posts.

The community limitations for Slack are pretty shit too;
>can be forced into every channel
>can't block or mute annoying people
>no decent banning system

>>19685
IRC has a tonne of great mobile apps.

Well, there's some value in restricting a community like that. If you picked say, Skype, you'd get a different set of people participating than if you picked IRC, and I tend to think of the later as much more desirable. I wasn't totally serious though. I just like IRC. I've also been on IRC channels that were connected to Slack, and they are kind of awkward.

Well if you want my opinion about that poll, it's really stupid to cry about them stating that they own every message, because that's just common sense: they own the servers, they own any message you put on their server. Just like cron owns literally every post ever on lewd.sx for as long as he's paying the servers to host it. That's all there is to it. Same is true with slack, or facebook, or anything else tbh. Giving yourself ownership over the content the people posts on your platform is just common sense and just means if there's a legal problem about a message or something, they can just freely delete it without having legal problem with that user. In fact I'd go as far as saying that some of these other services are worse on that to the point they claim ownership of every user account, which is also common sense considering it allows you to terminate an account freely without risking any legal problem with a particular user. I think this is just overreacting. I'm pretty sure they don't even intend to do anything using that, it's just an in-case-they-need-it guarantee. Thus, I'm voting to stay on Discord.

If I had to say about the other platforms offered, the one I'm least inclined to go to is actually IRC, because it doesn't embed images anyways, which is the whole point of the nsfw channel: embedding nsfw images in a channel. Also, as has been told above, the reason we left slack was because of the 10k limit on message log viewing, IRC doesn't even let you see old messages in a channel unless you're logged in 24/7, if you log out once, everything is gone. It's not even a valid alternative as it doesn't even offer the basic features that were the reason behind us moving away from slack to begin with. I'm not sure about XMPP and Tox as I haven't really used them, but if they're similarly unable to embed images or view old messages, you probably won't see me moving, there's absolutely no way I'm going to go on a service that's actually a downgrade over Discord. That is all I have to say about this.

Considering that none of the things you listed above exist in a physical sense, none of the usual rules apply. Copyright does not apply to thought.

Copyright applies to distribution of copyrighted material, uploading it to discord is actually possible, and it's actually literally distributing it to anyone in that channel, therefore you could get legal issues with that. In fact Hammer & Chisel would be the ones getting called on it because they own the platform. And to avoid issues, I have no doubt deleting one message and the uploaded file is much much easier than going to court for that one message containing copyrighted material. Also, images can also be copyrighted, just look at the advanced search features of google, you can literally tell it not to search for copyrighted images, and that's yet again distributing copyrighted material. So long as the copyright holder doesn't care, that's fine, but if he's an ass and cares they can just delete that message and then they're done with that problem.

Depends what client you use. https://askubuntu.com/questions/262118/i...line-media

You can setup a bouncer to log messages for you, or use a service like cloudirc or its Open Source alternatives.

Im pretty sure that you could probably do the same for slack then, given the irc gate.

Finding a client that does embed stuff and setting up a bouncer is more trouble than it's worth tbh. It should just be "launch client => login/whatever => get a bunch of stuff straight from the server about the past messages, and if I scroll up, grab a couple older messages, etc etc."
