Im on this other forum where they handle it by junking + warning and its working.

This must have really bothered you a lot to have made a thread about it. I feel like they should not be punished for doing something like that, a person could have made the thread very hastily and may have regretted their choice on the matter. The best thing to do would be to junk the thread.

It does bother me cus if kids say that they are leaving I dont expect to see them post on threads the day after. Imo they are crying for attention and then YOU have to feel bad cus you never knew who the user that left was, like I give a fuck? Junking the thread atleast but also warning them for even posting it instead of pming their friends on the forum that they actually care about.

i remember on another forum, a member who a lot of people were good friends with decided that the best way to leave the forum would be to tell people that he had pancratic cancer and needed to be in all-round care. came back around a year later saying he lied.

good times.

I agree, it's silly for people to make those threads only to come back later. However, I feel like permabanning people for it is extreme and if people are taking a break for a while then they should just PM people they care about or know. There are various ways to go about this but if the mods are going to allow these threads to continue then they should contain it to a certain section of the forum so people are allowed to ignore it easily. The only time I see a leaving thread viable is if it's a mod leaving lewd or someone well known in the community and has been really active in it, but other than that leaving threads are 100% useless.

I think I will have to do something to deter people from doing it in the future.

Especially when people don't even leave for a day, and have logged in every day since the left and lurked for a few hours.

Who's online as of right now;

After bringing it up to him, he said that he hasn't logged in recently.

I think his phone might still be logged in or something.

Just junk the real goodbye threads then? Like, if they want to leave then all they have to do is PM their friends instead of making a thread saying they will never come back and the come back 1 day later?

If it's this big an issue to some of you, just have the thread locked so that it can't be continued.

I'm thinking of doing what compa suggested the other day, and just having a subforum for goodbye threads and excluding threads made in there from the today's posts search and latest posts on the index.

That way they can say their goodbye, and anyone that wonders where they went can find their goodbye thread in the subforum.

Personally, I never feel bad when random people leave. I never knew the person so it's whatever.

Additional suggestion to add for that. Might want to keep a time limitation on those threads. Only keep the thread open for x days/hours and it closes. Not that it bothers me that much but I sometimes find it odd to see an old "leave" thread to be open for a long time with OP still active. It's easy for conflicts to occurs as well from my observations. My point is, they're leaving anyway so is there any point in keeping those threads open forever?

Warning: This is my opinion. You have the right to disagree.

That's genius tbh.

What out extending the functionality of the "introductions" subforum? That way people arriving or leaving is all contained in the same place.
Just an idea I've seen executed elsewhere.
I definitely agree with having a better place to put it than "serious discussion" though.
