I thought about starting this thread for anyone interested about learning game development(with a focus on anime style, and advanced engines like UE4, Unity, Cryengine, etc), so we could discuss about what are the tools and engines for different skill levels, things related to development, etc. (Or maybe even making a small team to make a game together)

Or for someone more experienced, talking about how everything started for example, or suggestions.

Also, if someone makes a first game, we could also use this thread to give feedback so the person can improve.

My story (hopefully it can help someone)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I started playing with RPG Maker XP about 10 years ago(not very often) and stopped after a while.
Then I learned Unity in this course a few years ago, but haven't used it often after it. Didn't make any full game in Unity.

Started playing again with RPG Maker MV, I think the programming logic I got from Unity helped me a lot to make more complex things in RMMV. The first game I made had only 25 minutes of gameplay and very simple mechanics, but they got a bit better in the sequels
(always searched Google and YouTube for tutorials and used a lot of plugins).

Now I'm learning UE4, started from zero with this tutorial, would recommend it to anyone who has programming knowledge to try it since it's very short and gave me enough knowledge to make this game using Blueprints and some assets from the UE4 Marketplace(always searching Google for help when I needed):
(Ecchi/nsfw)

Spoiler

Now (trying) learning UE4 C++

And watching Death March Kara Hajimaru Isekai that talks about a game programmer

Incredible demo! Keep up the great work! :D

Funny enough, I did have the opportunity to work as a writer and an Android dev for a game studio started for our senior projects at university. They turned me down, but I'm pretty sure they stole one of my ideas I proposed while chatting with them. S.O.B. wouldn't even dare to look me in the eye come our final presentations though, so I suppose I got the last laugh. ^^

Thanks, nice to see you liked the video. It's actually a "full" game (the quality has a lot to improve)

I'm used to getting turned down in job interviews, so I'll probably try an indie endeavour in game development before trying to apply for a game studio.

What are you considering when you say "improve"? I'm sort of disillusioned from Uni courses all boiling down to "teach yourself the material and take my exams" and so I'm brushing up on Python and Processing, and learning C++ and C# w/ Udemy.
It's nice having someone ahead of you tell you about their experiences, thoughts, and plans. ^^

Lewd. Let me tell you  much I've come to lewd since I began to live. There are 37.2 trillion cells that fill my body. If the word “lewd” was engraved on each nanoangstrom of those thousands of millions of cells it would not equal one one-billionth of the lewd I feel for [REDACTED] at this micro-instant. Lewd! Lewd!

Nice, I find learning independently without courses to be more engaging and better in my case.

By improving the game I meant adding more RPG mechanics and more interesting gameplay, and using anime style. Also a lot of things could be better like the menus and dialogue boxes for example, maybe adding support for Linux, VR or android could be a thing to try too.

But these things are a lot faster to write in C++ than in blueprint(visual scripting based on C++), so I will have to practice C++ first.

I tried RPGM, Unity and UE4, and both RPGM and surprisingly UE4 were easy to learn and self-teaching was possible, in contrast to what most usually say I find UE4 easier than Unity.
