Hey, fellows!

Now that my Micro-SD chip is broken I've got to sit at the PC to listen to music, what a pain! (Normally I use a FIIO X1 DAP)

Well, that gives me motivation to ask you this, however:  Do you listen to doujin music? Or do you stick with plain Animusic?

If 1, what groups do you like? What are your fave songs and themes? Are you on the Touhou/Seihou train?

If 2, then what is your favourite anime song of all time? (Can be game music as well, eg umineko, ar tonelico)

If none of the above applies, GET OUT. (hope this raises my bulli percentage) (3)

3b Maybe you like some other asian music? Share it. (Please stay and comment)

I guess I'll begin!

1 I really really like some doujin groups, to the point that my collection has about 66,6% of that. (I'm throwing utaite in the same pot)

Mostly, I listen to these groups: Rokugen Alice, Barbarian on the groove (really only the latest albums, earlier ones are too jpoppy), ABSOLUTE CASTAWAY (<3), Buta-Otome, Barrage Am Ring, Chibicco Folk, Hoshineko Sounds, hagall, k-waves LAB, Yura Hatsuki, Cytokine and some others.

This moment I listen to 謎掛アリス from Absolute Castaway, youtube has a vid (I won't post linked clips here, since the max'd be one) (you might like their take on 1925, if you know waht I mean)

2 Well, that's a hard one. I feel that I automatically like anime songs better if I liked the anime itself, and vice-versa.

My fave musicians who do animusic are Kokia, Akiko Shikata, Angela, ALI Project, Susumu Hirasawa, Yousei Teikoku, Nightmare, Buck Tick, Harada Hitomi, Yuki Kajiura, ... you get it, it goes on.

Most recently, I rewatched Shiki, so I often listen to Kuchizuke by Buck Tick.

3b

I love the collab work of Jun Maeda/Yanagi nagi - Owari no wakusei no love song - とある海賊王の気まぐれ  Witch of the mountain??? No idea. ALSO VERSAILLES PHILHARMONIC QUINTET

I'm really looking forward to your comments! :D :D :D

1. Unfortunately the only ones that come to mind at the moment are Reol and Nanahira - I've listened the shit out of Gokusaishiki and Best Of Monosugoi. I also like a lot of music why people that seem to get grouped as IOSYS, at least in my mind.

2. <3 All Alone With You by EGOIST, Only My Railgun by FripSide, Girls Dead Monster, aaaah they're all great! I've also heard some decent music from the Toradora! soundtrack, though I'm yet to properly listen to that (or watch the anime for that matter).

3b. Wasn't sure whether or not to put Vocaloid here or in 1, but anyway, I love UtsuP, Yuyoyuppe, Last Note., Wowaka, Nekobolo.

4. I'm adding my own category for weeb music of western origin. Moe Shop, Baq5, Android52, Hentai Dude...

Yeah ok so as for Japanese music I really like Capsule (even though they've been shitty recently), they have a expansive back catalog but I recommend the album Lounge Designers Killer. As for Vocaloid music, @malmon has left some good suggestions but I also like Neru and I really really recommend Hachi. Also, Utsu-p's latest album was dissapointing in my opinion, check out warufuzake and stuff predating it.

Finally, my favourite artist ever is probably Marty Friedman, he's now a Japanese guitarist, but he was born in the west and played in some defining metal bands (Cacophony, Megadeth) but he also has his solo. His style is very exotic and he takes a lot of inspiration from Enka music. I'd suggest you check out songs from his first two solo albums: Dragon's Kiss and Scenes. They really showcase what he's about. As for individual songs, Valley of Eternity, Saturation Point and Devil Take Tomorrow are probably representative of his style as a whole, so if you don't like any of them you probably won't like anything else he's put out as well.

I hope you take my suggestions because that makes me feel good

1.- I made a whole thread of it in the music group.
2.- I like Man on a Mission, anthything LoveLive! (both u's and Aquors), DOLLS BOX (I have a crush on their lead vocal Fuki since Dragon Guardian), Galneryus, BUCK-TICK, banvox, Tofubeats, Satoshi Tomiie, HALFBY, anyhting including either Ryuichi Sakamoto, Tetsuya Komuro and Yasutaka Nakata since im a huge synth and sound design weaboo and anything that has to do with Choujigen Game Neptune (Asami Imai, nao, ayane).
3.- Usually a little bit of k-pop, just BIGBANG and 2NE1, also a lot of k-rap. I despise VOCALOID.
4.- Western music? I'm stuck on the 60's, 70's and 80's because speshall keed. Of weeb origin? Everything that Attack the Music releases. Also Skrillex.

Funnily enough, that's not how it works, the producers you listened to were mediocre.

I love vocaloid all right, having got to know it by it's songs with actual stories - like Judgement of corruption, the story of evil, Darkwood Circus and f, ...

There's alot of crap out there, sure - but really good songs too. Some of them I like better when sung by utaite, some are better original (Have you ever seen a good cover of hide and seek by seeU?)

Some songs I like atm are Harvest, Karakuri Burst, Creepy Toast, Soul breeze and Meteor

Is it a significant improvement over just listening from a phone?

Hmmm... Short answer: Yes
Long answer: I've got the feeling that many only use DAPs for their better, louder amps; I do not care much for loudness, clarity is more important - and really depends on the quality of your music. So if you've got 320 kbps mp3 or better, yes, in every case the DAP will be better. (except if you use a phone amp and dac, but who wants to carry all that crap for mobile use?)
For lower quality the DAP won't be worse^^
I guess the main differences are 1) the size of the electronics - the amp of a DAP certainly is larger and more powerful than any phone amp 2) The maximum currency being carried through the jack into the headphones - loudness^^ [My electronics lessons were a while back, no idea now, albeit it is clear that a phone compromises on size of electronics]

I also experienced that the sound remained clearer when listening at louder volumes compared to the two phones I've used since I got the DAP (Samsung G S3, LG G2)
Though shitty quality music will still be exasperating...

I originally hadn't planned on buying it, but then I fucked up the headphone jack on the LG thing (which doesn't have a card slot anyway - wtf? presents...), so I got it - since it's comparatively cheap for good quality and performance and also comes with a cover.

As for headphones, at home I use ATH m40x and otg AKG K451, which are similar in sound performance, but much cheaper and louder, though maybe a bit more base-heavy. (None can touch the AKG hp at the pricepoint, I've been using variations of the design since I was 17)

Yeah, a higher quality amplifier will have a lower output impedance, allowing more current to go through the drivers. I currently use a pair of Klipsch Image One headphones (32 ohm) with my LG G3. I've always used that setup pretty much exclusively outdoors and in noisy environments, so I only just recently noticed how noisy my phone's output is. I might consider getting one of these is whatever next phone I get will be equally poor in the audio department (currently awaiting the LG V10 successor).
