For me, I always like manga more than anime. The main reason is that since animes are produced based on the mangas, they can be late by about 1 year of 6 months.  Because of that, the stuidos are putting in fillers to wait for the source to catch up. Personally, I don't like anime fillers because I cannot feel the author's touch at all but with mangas, we don't have that.

The other advantage of reading mangas is pacing and speed as reading mangas is generally faster than watching animes. I think on average, a 20 minutes episode cover only two chapters of manga that you can read in less than 10 minutes. That is why it is easier for me to pick up new series and read them if I focus on reading mangas.

Finally, with mangas, I think the artworks is more detailed than in the anime and therefore I think the images are cooler in mangas even though they are not moving.

What do you guys think?

I am personally a rather big manga fan although I lean more towards the yuri and romance side of it. But while I do agree that the pacing is usually better in manga's as you can dictate the pace yourself, and there is more of a "connection" with the manga due to being able to see a lot of the author's personality in the style of their drawings there is something to be said about seeing ones favorite manga's being turned into animated form.

"From the perspective of others I am part of the world, but when I observe the world from my perspective I am nowhere to be found. To observe is to create perspective. I can never cease to be the point of origin from my perspective. I observe that which is not myself. This is the first principle to find." - Ergo Proxy

I actually think that I have a better time when reading manga. It's also probably because so many of the good manga that I've read don't have an anime.

Yes, you are right. There are a lot of good and decently popular mangas that do not make it to the anime. The main condition for a manga to have an anime adaptation is a good demographic and that is why a lot of exceptional niche mangas are not going to be adapted into anime even though they have a good amount of fans both internationally and locally. It is a safer investment for them to create anime based on Shonen series because they already have wider demographic and the merchandising/supports are already established.

I definitely prefer manga to anime because I love reading. It's more enjoyable for me to curl up in my room and immerse myself in a good Manga for hours.

Sad to say, I had a pretty bad experience with Mangas ;(.

It was when Attack on Titan (anime) came out. When I discovered AOT, I finished the first 10 episodes in one sitting. I was so hooked-up that I decided to read the manga. After reading the manga, I didn't enjoy watching the anime that much anymore because I kinda spoiled myself on the storyline. I lost the excitement of not knowing what's going to happen when I watch the anime. So I told myself to avoid reading mangas as much as possible especially if there's already an anime version of it. :D

Anyone wants to recommend a manga? Maybe I'll give reading manga a go one more time?

Okay well One Piece is amazing obviously. But if you want something that you probably haven't heard of try Berserk, Tower of God, and Beelzebub. 3 phenomenal manga. Trust me.

Arighty! I'll give them a try. I think I've already seen a preview of Beelzebub (anime) since a friend of mine recommended it to me long time ago. Tower of God looks interesting with its visuals but I'm sensing yaoi with this one. (Am I right?) Hahaha. Not really into that stuff. I prefer yuri   :ahn: . Berserk on the other hand looks very interesting too, but I think I'd go with Beelzebub first.  :steve:

Thanks for the recommendations Guts! ;)

Berserk is unbelievable, it's one of the best out there. Tower of God isn't a yaoi... cmon man, I don't roll that way. It's actually a really good story. As for Beelzebub, I loved it. It was really hilarious, but I wouldn't rate this one as good as the other 2. Just a heads up :D

For me, Shonen mangas like Bleach, One Piece, Beelzebub, Gintama, Toriko are better in the manga than in the anime because of the reasons I stated before: pacing, originality, artwork, cool factor. I think Shingeki no Kyojin anime is great though and since it is not a traditional shonen battle fantasy with moves and flashy attacks, the difference is not that visible compared to the series I mentioned.

Not all anime is based on manga :) some are original, others based on games, or light novels, or visual novels, etc.

That said, I prefer anime in almost all cases. I like seeing things move, in color, I love the voice acting (Japanese original of course), and I uber love the music.

So for me, anime just is more "entertaining" :)

My list of manga I've read is definitely under 50 series - maybe even about half that maybe.

My list of anime series I've seen is getting darn close to 300 series.

Fully depends on the series, some take themselves better in manga than anime. To mention a great example, Fairy Tale (haven't watched a huge amount mind you) becomes too messy in the anime for my eyes, but in the manga, everything seems cleaner and easier to grasp. Another thing I prefer about manga is the lack of fillers and the much more violent imagery. (Looking at you Naruto and Tokyo Ghoul.. >_>)

I never tried to even read a manga but after being here and almost everyone recommending it. Well I have to now. I am a book worm but I am use to painting my own world that I never felt like reading a manga would catch my attention. I hope you guys will prove me wrong in the matter. :)

Sure enough this question dismisses anime series that don't have manga counterpart or based on games.

That aside, for sure I favor manga a little more. I like the art more. I could swipe through at my own pace. No filler episodes.

Otherwise, I nearly like anime about the same. But, manga I could take to bed with me and read under covers. Anime, not so much - because I can accidentally pull the headphones out and no longer incognito mode  :noship:

I have always been a anime watcher until recently I was introduced into the manga world. I will still have to decide whether I prefer one over the other. I guess I will have to finish the manga then watch the anime to give my true opinion on this topic. But so far I am enjoying the manga alot more than I usually do with anime.

Manga over anime for me. Especially if that anime has tons of filler episodes that contributes nothing to the canon plot (bleach, naruto come to mind). Also it's great that you can finish a chapter in 5-10 minutes depending on reading speed rather than watching a 30 minute episode with about 10 minutes of pointless flashbacks and staring contests.
