You ever heard of Spinoza?

Spinoza.... god "trapped" in material reality, being a substance that subsists on its own...
that's Materialism, or putting it aside, denial of freedom.
ka-ká, funny how Moeki resorted to relativism
no offense, but... if anyone's belief are true, and my belief is that yours is not... which one s the valid one?

That's a bit of a weird comparison, the anime world isn't really something you believe in, but just a form of entertainment.

weird indeed, but not completely wrong...
if you choose to "believe" in anime, and accept it as part of your reality (cosmovision), whilst denying "God"(who/what, by the way hasn't been defined by akiram) the condition of real, you are most probably doing so because you have "a reason to believe": your senses.
you can watch anime, and other people do so, so it's not only in your head, is it?
and yes, that would eventually lead you to deny realities (realities not real to you, btw) that fail to fit in a material plane, and to accept matter (substance) as the last instance of existence, uncaused, and with intrinsic properties of absolute necessity for reality to be real.
hence, concepts such as "Mind" "Conscience" and eventually "Freedom" would be pure sh*t, perhaps society's constructs, perhaps not.
>if we are cause by the interactions of matter only, are we really the cause of our actions, thinkings, and feelings?
>the answer is no.

Yeah, I think there's something out there overseeing nature and physics and all. Dunno what it's like or if it even cares about human happiness, but I like to go out on a limb and think it does.

No, God won't ever be real to me- it's just as real as religion is. It's words, it's theory and it's something some people believe because they want to live a life of which they hope has a meaning/worth because a piece of scripture says so. There's a hard truth and there's the hard debate of whether religion is true per se at all. To anybody asking whether the opposite side can provide proof against God not existing, you might just want to rethink your entire argument
.
It's like you starting an argument about something, then having somebody go back over your argument completely miss the point of the argument and then ask you to prove your own (moreover correct and credible) argument as if there's any significance on your point, whereas the other point you're trying to disprove has to prove waaaaay more.

That's just stupid, don't do it.

I don't believe in one, but I wish I did. I don't want to think I just won't exist after death. I want to believe there is a reason to be a good person that'd give me some advantage in the after life, but I don't.

I like to believe that this is all just a very intricate VR simulation, and when we die, we'll just take our respective headsets off and be like, "woah, that sucked"

Well you could always think you'll just be reborn and feel the same experience you did in this life when you were born.

but, the sad feeling is that you'll try to think you'll be able to remember everything when you're born again and it doesn't feel right that you're just going to suddenly forget everything and enter into a different life.

jeez i wish i knew everything that everyone before me knew.

maybe i do

yeah, i do
i also believe in demons and think vampires might be real
paranormal/metaphysical stuff piques my interest
there's no other way to explain my self-experience/past events without god existing
just because you can't perceive it with human senses doesn't mean it ain't real

God exists and she is a catgirl!

Jokes aside, I don’t think I believe in God per se. I do believe in extradimensional species that are above us (they possess more knowledge and abilities than humans), though.

I respect the point of view of those who do believe in one or more higher beings for philosophical reasons like the simulation hypothesis, but I think even if there was one(or more), it doesn't really matter nor interferes in our lives in any way, like Stephen Hawking, who also didn't believe, said when questioned about God's power:

Quote:I don't think it's very useful to speculate about what God might or might not be able to do. Rather, we should examine what he actually does in the universe we live in. All the observations suggest that it operates according to well defined laws. These laws may have been redacted by God, but it seems that he does not intervene in the universe to break the laws, at least not once he set the universe doing.

Since no higher being intervenes, I don't have to worry about going to any kind of Underworld or supernatural punishment if I don't follow X or Y rule made 3000 years ago for either the best interest of the creators at the time or because of lack of scientific knowledge, or at least this is what I think.

I like to think that God doesn't exist yet, but technology will eventually create an AI very close to one, increasingly smarter.

I found this site the other day and it's just the kind of thing I've wanted to see forever. As an atheist, I find the anti-Christian pseudo-history that so many of them (even including some pop scientists and historians) spout embarrassing as a history major. This is a great blog with posts refuting the "lol Christianz burnt down the library of Alexandria and created the dark ages xD" tripe that too many people still recite as gospel (lol).

True. Some people don't get the contribution of Christianism.
I don't like pop-"scientist" like Dawkins with prepotencious arguments, but of course is not like christianity is a super good thing every time. XD

I don't think I can believe in God. In some ways I think it's far too convenient. Believe in and offer prayer to a giant omnipotent deity and be a good person, and you can have a good life.
Don't be a good person or believe, you burn forever in eternal damnation. Okay.

Plus I think this world is far too cruel and unjustified to warrant the existence of a large overseer. If God does actually exist, I think it is just toying with us.

I believe in God for sure. Honestly it seems to be so deeply rooted in me that even in times of despair that never really quite diaapeared. And for the above user, you don't have to be a good person to be saved. You just need to believe that he will save you. The reason why it's so easy is because God did all the work for us.

Now despite this looking like an arguement, please don't continue it / start one. Arguments about religion rarely have both sides calm. I'd like to avoid any arguements to be perfectly honest.
