As this also applies here, I have copied my announcement from the Discord server.

Basically, in an attempt to make Lewd more enjoyable for myself and others, I'm trialing going back to the (very) old way of doing things around here.

All staff but myself have temporarily been demoted and I shall be taking care of things on my own, the rules have been discontinued for what was our easier to obey rule, "use common sense". I feel that since adding the rules a lot of hate has spread between the users and the staff as it's not always clear to tell when someone's pushed their luck too much and when they have not.

I believe that Lewd was a friendlier place as a whole when nobody had to feel afraid of the staff, and when breaking the rules was not a meme. Basically I think that a more relaxing, friendly environment is the way to go, and I feel that this path offers that.

While there are no set rules and I am alone in moderation, I do hope that none of you take advantage of the fact and try to ruin this for others. If you can prove to myself and the former staff that this is the way to go, it will continue; if not, it'll go back.

Just because I am a lone admin/moderator, does not mean that I'll be letting anyone get away with being an asshat; if I'm not online to see it, I'm certain that some kind soul will send a report my way and I'll deal with it when I finish sleeping doing whatever it is I do when I'm not online.

There is a weeks trial period from now.

I will also be making an effort of being more active around the forums again.

Are you sure this is a good idea, Senpai? I feel like the recent regulations and consistent presence of a having a moderator online were a really good thing for the community here. We had clearly defined rules on what sort of behavior was acceptable on the forum as a whole, and for the gray areas our niche subforums and Discord channels did their jobs of filtering questionable content to their designated areas. (Which was basically a common sense regulation) The #lounge was cleaned up nicely without public ERP making other users uncomfortable, while still allowing us to partake in private if we chose to do so. Yeah there's still a lot of content that technically breaks the rules about racism/sexism/harassment, but it's contained where people can expect and anticipate to see that sort of thing before choosing to enter such areas.

This may be a trial for now, but I still want to make it known that I think this is really just a step in the wrong direction. I don't know what series of events triggered this decision, but I liked having our rules in place and our mod team available. I feel like overall they did a good job making it known what was acceptable behavior and I think that their demotion is unnecessary.

I worked very hard to get defined rules in place, Senpai. I feel like if you I want to take a common sense approach, then common sense should be used in enforcement of the existing rules, not just saying there are no rules and to use common sense and hope it'll work out.

Yaaay, anarchy!

I'm on the fence with this one, though I'd personally reinstate the other moderators if I were you. Either way, I'm interested to see how things will play out.

i think that this would work out for now, but when the community here grows, it would be difficult for a single person to handle it. personally, i'd go back to how it was before just so that everything is in place for when lewd grows. but i'm quite new here, so i can't say i've seen enough to know how things work here

Nostalgia is one hell of a drug. Even for a community that's not too small, I don't think that one person should be doing all of the moderation, especially when it's someone who kicks/bans without warnings and often acts based on their feelings. The only people that would have to feel afraid of the staff are the people who aren't willing to follow the rules, and if that's the case, they probably don't need to be here. If breaking the rules is treated as a 'meme', you take action towards those who are doing it; 'fixing' things by reverting it back won't do you any good.

To be honest, the changes to the staff and rules don't really effect the forums in the slightest.

I mean, the last time a mod action needed to made was by myself a week ago, and the one before that two weeks ago (again, by myself).

The changes might effect the Discord server a little more, but without trying we won't know for sure. I have faith in the community, and feel that everyone is able to remain in a pleasant manner; if they're not, they'll be punished accordingly.

If the weeks trial period is a roaring success and I happen to continue moderating alone, I will bring on someone else to share the load if need be.

I agree that it's good to have an authorative figure online at all times, but I'm also inclined to point out that over the last week or so, there hasn't been a day without some sort of mod/user argument/drama; often times started by one of the staff.

>We had clearly defined rules

I don't think our rules were perfectly clear, as often a dispute was made over whether a mute was fair, or how much messages about a niche topic constitutes moving to a channel other than the lounge.

> on what sort of behavior was acceptable on the forum as a whole

I think that for the most part, the forums never really had any need for a list of things telling people what they can and can't do; there was the problem with the pol stuff a while ago, but I believe that problem is now solved.

will reply to the rest of the stuff here when i get home, got an australia day barbecue thingo to go to.
