Even if the anime's reception wasn't that well-received, I still really enjoyed Guilty Crown and its OST. This is probably my favorite track:

God damn. I've still yet to watch Guilty Crown, but the soundtrack is top-tier. Frankly, I could imagine this playing in a film of some sort.

What's your take on the show as a whole?

Personally I enjoyed it. Although there were a lot of plotholes, arguably some of the characters made up for it; even supporting characters like Tsugumi are very likeable. I also liked how original the setting was and the feeling of not knowing what to expect in the next episode.

Goes lovely with a quiet dinner in a college dining hall. Among other places, I'm sure.

The Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere OST is studded with gems, but this one's one of my favorites.

Sounds like something I'd hear in an RPG as I'm strolling around town. Somewhat of an Irish/Scottish vibe too, though that might just be me.

Not too shabby; not too shabby at all. :3 Really makes me wish people appreciated the effort that went into scoring anime. There's a dedicated community, but it's only a tiny niche, and the CDs themselves don't stay in print for long.

Ah well. On that note, whenever I begin to feel melancholy, perhaps lament about missing things I never could've been part of, this song never fails to pick me up. Somehow or another, it always reassures you that everything will turn out alright.

Surprised no one's mentioned Sengoku Basara! The show had some seriously awesome aesthetics, ranging from the character designs to the fight scenes to, of course, the soundtrack. It's really interesting how they mixed a Medieval Japanese vibe with electric guitar and electronic sounds; very eclectic, if you'll excuse my alliteration.

This one was one of my favorites from the moment I heard it. It pales in comparison to some of the other pieces, but it's great for setting a scene and building tension. Essentially, it lets you know: "Shit's about to go down."

Sometimes, I ponder what life would be like if we could make our own soundtracks. If that were the case, The Big O has pretty much the perfect score for any gray, rainy day.

I said I was going to do more and then I forgot.  Well, let's keep going, if anyone is willing to read my ramblings:

FLCL Vol. 1
This one is alot of fun, I need to get the other volumes too, I'm not sure how many there are total; a friend gave me this one.  I like the playful punk rock sound that surprisingly goes along well with the visuals of monsters and mecha destroying the city with wacky, almost Looney-Tunes-style animation.  FLCL wouldn't have been half the show it was if it weren't for The Pillows.  This music makes me feel happy and nostalgic, I seriously cannot listen to "Runners High" without hear Haruko in my head shouting, "LUUUNCH TIIIME!!!"

Ghost in the Shell (1995 movie)
This one is unique, and definitely not for everyday listening.  Starts off with loud chanting and it comes back around to it more than once.  The rest of it is very minimalist with a dark and heavy atmosphere.  I remember watching it for the first time and the film exceeded my expectations, and I think that the music had a role to play with that.  I think that this kind of music just locks down your focus and forces you to pay attention to what's on the screen and take it seriously, and it's very effective at that.  It's supposed to be creepy, to make you not feel at unease as you are seeing technology in the film that is beyond our understanding.  "Puppetmaster" is my favorite track here, "Virtual Crime" is also good, they are meant to make you realize that there's something sinister happening in the plot that neither you nor the characters understand just yet.

Gundam Wing
This is really special to me.  I loved Gundam Wing when I was a kid watching on TV, and looking back I realize that the music was a major component of that.  It, and Star Wars, was one of the first things that turned me on to orchestral soundtrack music when I was around 10-or-so years old.  Back then I didn't have internet and didn't know how to use it properly, there was no such thing as ordering soundtracks or downloading or streaming them.  So I would have to listen hard to the music in the show and attempt to memorize my favorite pieces.  The music of Gundam Wing is perhaps most popular for it's blend of rock and roll and jazz and electronic along with orchestral themes, but honestly the stuff I liked the most when I was young was the more drama-heavy orchestral stuff.  #7, "The Curtain of the Next Chapter is Coming Up Now" and #8, "Eternity and Infinity in These Hands" evoke some of the strongest nostalgia from me.  But when I was young I remember loving the fancy party music in "To Beauty, To Elegance, And To Noble-Mindedness" and trying so hard to commit that track to my memory.  I also love some of the more Relena-centric tracks such as "Soft Hair and See Through Eyes" and "As Relena Peacecraft" they remind me of the softer, more drama-oriented parts of the show and that it wasn't all just explosions and screaming and that's what I liked about it.  Also love the solid jazz in the track, "Cold Bloodthirstiness." And I could never forget the ED track, the instrumental version of Just Communication, which has a little bit of everything this soundtrack has to offer, the orchestra, jazz horns, electronic beats and shredding guitar solos, that one piece never gets old.

The Gundam Unicorn OST is fucking godly. It's already difficult to create a track that accentuates the action/narrative, but to invoke strong emotion from the music itself is a masterful feat.

At least, that's my take on it. You be the judge.

My favorite OSTs are no doubt Cowboy Bebop's and the Aria Series OST. They're one of the most fitting original soundtracks I've heard thus far and I can safely say every piece matters and was carefully thought out to fit the show like a glove, enchanting it with it's righteous atmosphere and tone.
Most other anime shows I usually only like the opening and endings and some exception here and there, but it's usually not the same, as it's quite clear the best amount of dedication and love didn't go into it.
I'm probably forgetting a lot of OSTs I love, but those two are my absolute favorites.

Fairy Tail's OSTs are pretty much my favourite. I love the fusion of rock with orchestral and Celtic themes they seem to use.

I'm also a fan of the Persona 4 OST, though I'm pretty sure most of it is from the game, so I'm unsure if it counts here.
