A+ before Network+

is it that necessary to spend the money on the 901 and the 902 (and taking the time to watch all the professor messer videos and do proactice labs) before getting the Network+. (talking comptia certs here)

Anyways, I dunno if the A+ is an explicit prereq to the Network+, but I'd argue it's worth studying for unless you've got sysadmin experience in the field. Most of it is pretty basic for tech-savvy people, but they do mention some obscure protocols and technologies you don't usually run into as a normal user.

Keep in mind, I last touched my certificate about half a decade ago. I'd say you should still go for it.
