Quote:A new PPP Survey reveals that 44 percent of Republicans favor making Christianity the official religion of the United States. While that is not a huge surprise, it becomes more frightening when you realize only 53 percent of Democrats and Republicans combined oppose the idea.
That is because 28 percent of Democrats said they favor a Christian theocracy. That number is shockingly high for the liberal US party.
It gets worse, though, because according to the poll, three out of four adults favor eliminating the First Amendment which would destroy the secular government we have now.

How does this make you feel?

Making the country a theocracy would mean drastic changes to the Constitution and the government itself.
The title is misleading; making Christianity the official religion does not mean changing the government into a theocracy.
This is not surprising, since the US is 78% Christian.

Saying that you want to repeal the first amendment should be punishible by death.

I have a LOT of trouble believing this statistic. The first amendment was designed to benefit everyone as individuals, in that the church benefits by being protected from persecution (such as imprisonment or a death sentence because you are Catholic) while other theists and atheists are protected from being forced to conform to the rules and practices of another religion. It's sole purpose is to protect the people, no matter what you believe or don't believe. Why would anybody in their right mind oppose this? You'd just be screwing yourself over in the long term by allowing a religion of government.

I also see that poll shows roughly 50/50 on the questions of making Christianity the official religion and making Islam illegal. Christianity and Islam are almost the exact same fucking religion, they're both just off-shoots of Judaism that evolved separately over the centuries. (Sure, they've collected different rules over time, but they both follow the same formula) It would be hypocritical as fuck to ban one and not the other. This is a perfect example of why the first amendment is so important. How would you feel if you got arrested because you weren't Muslim? No matter what your religion is, the first amendment is invaluable to you.

In my honest opinion, this whole article smells of lies and bias. I am an atheist, and while I do agree that religion is used to manipulate and control people's minds, I respect that others want to believe. Just be sure to respect our first amendment's separation of religion and government, because that protects all of us.

I think it is worth pointing out that the Quran has very defined guidlines about how governments ought to be structured and what laws need to be upheald in comparison to the Torah and Bible. It's also noteworthy how Muhammad compared to Jesus or Moses actually was a murderous warlord. That said, the Torah and Bible both have some sick shit in there, albeit not as structured as in the Quran. An example of Christian lunacy from the Bible is that you must kill your wife if she turns out not to have been a virgin before marriage.

It is, I read through the official survey and the way they present it is skewed.

Read the survey here: http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/pdf/2...esults.pdf

EDIT: I misread some stuff, ugh.

People just love to misrepresent statistics.

It's like an addiction.
